Weekly News from the Head of Primary – 23 June

Dear Parents

We have had a lovely day in school today to round off what has been another great week. This afternoon’s assembly featured a celebration for Hari Raya, with Primary and Secondary students performing various musical items, including a very catchy new tune actually written by the students themselves. Year 4 sang together and I have attached a photo from their performance. I also enjoyed hearing about Raya (or Eid) celebrations around the world from some of our senior students; from Egypt, Yemen and Kazakstan. A highlights video can be viewed here.

Thank you to all families who have helped with the clothing amnesty for the Lotus Charity this week. The response has been phenomenal with a huge amount of shoes and clothes collected over the past few days. Miss Fran and the charity committee are very grateful for your support, and the donations will be put to great use at Lotus. I have attached a photograph Mr Ian took earlier, as one of the boxes was being emptied, yet again!

As I mentioned last week, we have many important and exciting events to look forward to over the remaining 2 and a half weeks after Raya. Please be sure to keep an eye on the school calendars to check what’s happening: http://isp.edu.my/general-info/school-calendar – and a reminder that next week we have our 3 ISP Has Talent events – Year 1 at 8:30am on Wednesday, Year 2 at 8:30am on Thursday, and Year 3 to 13 at 1:30pm on Friday. These are always some of my favourite occasions at ISP and I know everyone is very excited. Good luck to all who are performing!

Mr Matt led a PE & Sports coffee morning for parents on Thursday this week, which was very well attended. Thank you to everyone who came along. Next week we also have our annual Sports Awards, which take place after school on Thursday. Again, this is a very special event and I know many of our students are extremely excited to see who has earned awards, and of course to look back on another very successful year of sport @ ISP. I read an interesting article this week which might be of interest to any of you who sometimes (like me) need a little encouragement to maintain a reasonably sporty and active lifestyle, which I thought I would share.

That is all after the upcoming celebrations of course, which will be the focus for many of our children and their families over the coming week. I would like to wish you all ‘Selamat Hari Raya!’

Best wishes, and see you back in school on Wednesday

Mr Rik
