What a fantastic half term we have had so far at school. This last week has been excellent, culminating in a riot of colour as everyone celebrates Deepavali before our well earned holiday. Only last Friday we were celebrating Pink day and on Sunday the PTA were taking almost 80 people on an excellent hike in the hills above Desa ParkCity with everyone dressed in pink too.
All week we have had a team of people from the International Schools Quality Mark (ISQM) who have been in school examining everything that we do, observing lots of lessons and examining all of our systems, with the intention of offering us suggestions to make the school even better. So far all of their feedback has been incredibly positive and we are very proud of all of the fantastic things that they have seen. They have been very impressed with the school facilities and also with the quality of the teaching and learning that they have observed. The students themselves have been wonderful, answering the visiting team’s questions clearly and intelligently, taking them on tours, and interacting with them in lessons and around school on a daily basis. The team were in from Monday to Thursday and are finalising their report which they will share with Mr Dalton in due course.
It was lovely to see so many of you in school on Thursday 5th October for the Coffee Morning session on our use of Google Classroom in the Secondary School. Thanks to all of you for your patience while getting signed in to my Parent classroom so that you could see how the whole process works. I really hope that you now have a little more insight into what the system allows us to do and how it enhances learning here at ISP. On a related note many of the teachers also spent last weekend on a Google Educators course here in KL and have come back to school this week full of ideas and energy to enhance their lessons.
It has been a HUGE week in Cross-Country with ISP sending teams to the KLISS and ISAC events on Friday October 6th and Sunday October 8th respectively. The KLISS event was run over a difficult 3 kilometre course around Nexus International School with lots of hills and uneven ground for the runners to content with. Our Secondary students showed a tremendous amount of determination and team spirit in very tough conditions. The Secondary team levelled the mark set earlier in the day by our Primary students and were announced as the overall winners for the KLISS event, a fantastic achievement by all involved. The majority of KLISS runners then returned to Nexus on Sunday for the ISAC Cross Country event. This was run over the same course in equally difficult conditions. The standard of running was much higher than KLISS with 11 schools from KL and surrounds competing. ISP finished a very admirable 5th and this was down to some excellent individual performances on the day. We had a number of Top 10 finishers and one age group winner, Kristian Tung in Year 8 who won the U13 boys race. Congratulations to all students who ran over the weekend.
I hope you and your children have a pleasant half term and I look forward to seeing you all after the holiday.
